RASI performs regular monitoring of the Pesut population and water quality through boat surveys and passive acoustic monitoring. Trial pinger studies are done to reduce dolphin mortality by gillnet entanglement. RASI also conducts coastal monitoring of marine mammals.
RASI is working on the establishment and implementation of a management plan of a 43,000 ha protected aquatic nature reserve in the Middle Mahakam Area including rivers, lakes as well as swamp areas and riparian forest. Five patrol teams from four sub-districts are actively monitoring illegal fishing and dolphin movements.
RASI provides environmental education at schools and society on protected wildlife, threatened ecosystems and provide solutions to reduce plastic waste in the river and sea.
RASI actively promotes sustainable resources use and provides aid for local community to engage in sustainable forms of aqua-culture and innovate post-harvesting products.
